Aruna was born with the desire to create sustainable employment for trafficked women seeking independence through a bright and confident future. We choose to be fully transparent from the hands that craft our products to the materials used to create them.

What Does Sustainable Employment Mean?

Human trafficking often traps women in cycles of poverty and re-trafficking. We break that cycle by creating lasting, meaningful jobs. At Aruna, every artisan works in a supportive, healthy environment where they can thrive.

Our holistic approach includes fair wages, healthcare, retirement benefits, and opportunities to grow personally and professionally. More than just employment, we offer a sisterhood—a space where women who were once trapped in brothels now find freedom, dignity, and a path forward.

Bluesign Certified Fabric

Aruna artisans are incredible, and so are the products they create. See that little “Sustainable and Bluesign Certified fabric” icon near our products? Allow us to explain. This certification embodies ethically made products in every stage, beginning at the factory floor and following along until the final product enters the consumer’s hands. Bluesign certification guarantees that both humans and the natural environment were cared for through the manufacturing process.

Most of our fabrics and trims are Bluesign certified, and we’ll make sure to call that out for you on each product. This means that not only are our products as a whole made ethically, but the companies that provide our trims and fabrics are also behind the sustainable mission. Our products are made using best practices from beginning to end.

Machine Washable Fabric

Life can be messy, but your bag doesn’t have to be. Whether it’s a coffee spill or a surprise rainstorm, just toss it in the washing machine, let the gentle cycle work its magic, and finish with low heat in the dryer. Our washable fabrics are made for life’s “oops” moments, so you can focus on making memories, not stains.

Recycled Polyester

Ever wonder what happens to those plastic bottles after they’re tossed in the bin? With recycled polyester, they get a new purpose. The process starts with collecting and sterilizing the bottles, crushing them into chips, and transforming those chips into yarn. It’s a small step toward reducing waste and creating something beautiful out of something disposable.

Water Repellent

Rainy days happen, even when you’re not prepared. Thankfully, our water-repellent fabric is here to keep your belongings safe and dry. Raindrops bead up and roll away effortlessly, so you can go about your day with peace of mind. Just a friendly reminder: it’s water-repellent, not waterproof — so no pool dives with your bag, okay?
